Asia Travel Re:Set was founded as a weekly newsletter in September 2020. After a decade of sustained travel and tourism growth across Asia Pacific, COVID-19 ruthlessly stalled the curve. Border closures, travel bans and quarantines changed the landscape.

As a travel economist and tourism strategy advisor, I’d tracked expansion of the travel and lifestyle economies across the region through the 2010s. I worked with destinations and companies worldwide to develop strategies and campaigns.

As Covid’s impacts became entrenched from Shanghai to Singapore and Seoul to Sydney, the Asia Travel Re:Set newsletter was my attempt to cut through the confusion - and track Asia Pacific’s potential pathways to eventual recovery.

Entering a New Era

After a slow start in 2022, the travel and tourism rebound is gaining momentum.

Dynamic and competitive markets throughout Asia Pacific are being shaped by demand for travel from within and across Asia Pacific.

Yet, travel patterns continue to evolve. New technologies are emerging. The geo-economics of travel and tourism have become more entrenched.

For many countries, the routes to growth, and away from post-Covid recovery, remain complex. New challenges will continue to emerge
